What is BMR and Why Is It Important?
Your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) represents the minimum number of calories your body needs to perform its most basic, life-sustaining functions. This includes essential processes like breathing, circulation, cell production, and nutrient processing when you are in a state of complete rest. Think of it as the energy your body would burn if you were to stay in bed all day, awake but not moving.

The Formula Behind BMR
This calculator uses the widely accepted Mifflin-St Jeor equation, which is considered more accurate than older formulas like the Harris-Benedict equation. The formulas are:
Men: BMR = 10 × weight (kg) + 6.25 × height (cm) - 5 × age (years) + 5
Women: BMR = 10 × weight (kg) + 6.25 × height (cm) - 5 × age (years) - 161
